Itinerary
Day 1: Mysore to Wayanad (120 km / 3 hours)
• Picked up from your hotel or any other location in Mysore at 8 AM by our driver-cum-guide.
• Drive to Wayanad, enjoying the scenic views of the Western Ghats along the way.
• On arrival, you will check-in to your hotel and freshen up.
• Then proceed for sightseeing in Wayanad.
• Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the largest wildlife reserves in Kerala. Here, you can enjoy a forest safari (at your own cost) and spot some of the animals like elephants, deer, bison, monkeys, and birds. Note that safari tickets are issued on a first-come-first-serve basis and may be cancelled by the forest department during rains.
• Edakkal Caves, a set of ancient rock shelters that contain prehistoric petroglyphs dating back to the Neolithic age. You will have to climb some steps to reach the caves and admire the carvings that depict human and animal figures, symbols, and scripts.
• Wayanad Heritage Museum, a museum that showcases the history and culture of Wayanad. Here, you can see various artifacts, such as tools, weapons, pottery, coins, jewelry, and sculptures that belong to different tribes and periods.
• Return to your hotel by evening and have dinner.
• Stay overnight at your hotel in Wayanad.
Day 2: Wayanad Sightseeing and Drop to Mysore
• You will have breakfast at your hotel and check-out.
• You will continue your sightseeing in Wayanad.
• Pookode Lake, a beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by hills and forests. Here, you can enjoy boating (at your own cost) and see some aquatic life like fish and lotus flowers.
• Then visit Lakkidi, a hill station that offers stunning views of the valleys and hills. It is also known as the gateway to Wayanad and one of the highest points in the district.
• Visit Sulthan Bathery, a town that was once used by Tipu Sultan as a battery (ammunition store). Here, you can see some historical monuments, such as an ancient Jain temple, a fort, and a mosque.
• Visit Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. It is built across the Karamanathodu River, a tributary of the Kabini River. It offers scenic views of the reservoir and the surrounding hills. You can also enjoy some water sports (at your own cost) here.
• Drive back to Mysore by evening and drop you at your desired location.
